Tryon, NC Craft Room

Ever wondered if you can squeeze modern functionality into a century-old basement without killing its charm?

Our clients in Tryon, NC, did. They own a gorgeous 100-year-old gem. Even the basement has its charms - plastered and whitewashed walls whispering history, exposed pipes with attitude, stained doors that ooze character, and even a vintage pull-down ironing board hiding in plain sight. But they craved a dedicated craft room down there. The mission? Cabinetry and counters that blended seamlessly with those original stained doors, like they'd been there since the house was built. Oh, and on a realistic budget.

Here's how we nailed it:
First off, old houses don't play nice. Wavy walls? Check. Pipes popping up where you least expect? Double check. We shimmed, scribed, and finessed unfinished ash RTA cabinets (smart, affordable, and rock-solid) to hug those imperfections like they were made for it.
Counters? No generic butcher block here. We sourced locally made custom wood tops ( Hill Woodworks in Landrum, SC), stained to perfection. The real magic? Dialing in the exact stain mix, layering colors until it mirrored the existing woodwork dead-on. No mismatches, no "close enough." It looks like the house grew these cabinets itself.

Result: A craft room that's equal parts vintage vibe and practical powerhouse. Budget-friendly, custom-feeling, and zero compromises on that Tryon heritage.

Got an quirky old home begging for an upgrade? Let's talk. Because charm like this deserves functionality that lasts another 100 years.
